Cestas de Junco
Ancient sort of craft that can be traced to the Roman times; the techniques used by the artisans (mostly women) are largely unchanged over the centuries. The baskets were originally used to help local fishermen and farmers transport their goods to the markets. The manufacture process begins with a careful selection of reed sticks (which grow alongside the water) and sun-dried in open fields; colour pigments are then applied and the reed is woven on handlooms to create the various intricate patterns.
To honour this ancient tradition, we have named our Reed Basket collection after Portuguese rivers.
